A Fascinating History

Built back in 1635, Stirk House exudes character and many authentic features can still be seen today, including a magnificent stone arch above the fireplace and even the original doorway which continues to welcome guests to this special place after all these years. Constructed using stonework from the former Sawley Abbey, dismantled a century earlier during Henry VIII’s dissolution of the monasteries, Stirk House has been unique from its very beginning. The building has stood through two world wars and survived a devastating fire before becoming the highly acclaimed venue we know and love.

The Estate Grounds

It’s not only the historic building that’s sure to impress, the setting at Stirk House is simply breathtaking.

With spectacular views of the surrounding Ribble Valley countryside and Lancashire’s famous Pendle Hill, guests can enjoy relaxing strolls through beautiful gardens, an ancient forest, and a nature trail. The 22 acres that make up the estate grounds provide an abundance of unique and striking backdrops for wedding photography. A haven for wildlife, wonderfully tranquil and with beautiful gardens glimmering with every colour you can image, it’s no wonder Stirk House is often likened to a real-life fairy-tale setting.
