After breakfast, your award-winning guide Simon Entwistle will arrive to meet you at Stirk House, and enthral you with stories on the journey from the hotel to the city of York. You’ll travel through the fabulous Yorkshire dales countryside, passing the picturesque villages of Skipton, Harrogate & Knaresborough, taking in tales of local heroes villains and historical events. Upon arrival in York, you’ll enjoy some refreshments before setting off for a guided walking tour of one of England’s most famous cities. You will take in the history of the impressive York Minster, where the tour begins and will from there make our way to the Treasurers House to hear the story of its ghostly Roman Soldiers.
From there you’ll explore York’s quirky Snickelways and ginnels, as well as the famous Shambles and whip-ma-whop-ma-gate! You’ll also visit the cities shortest street a scene of many a witch hunt from foregone centuries. The tour will then head over to the medieval Merchants Hall, home to York’s entrepreneurs for 660 years & counting, and one of the most beautiful buildings in the city. You’ll then stop by the majestic River Ouse. From here you’ll visit the grave of Great Britain’s most famous highwaymen, Dick Turpen before entering the iconic Stonegate, the most famous street in the city.
After the tour you’ll then have free time to visit York’s many attractions including The Minster, the Jorvic Viking Centre or the railway museum to name but a few. Your guide Simon will provide you information on these attractions and can assist you in finding these locations if required. You’ll then embark the coach to head back to Stirk House, and will arrive back at approximately 5pm.
